When Is Aaliyah’s Posthumous Album “Unstoppable” Release Date?

R&B music fans will recall the tragedy that occurred in August of 2021, when a plane crash claimed the life of American singer and dancer Aaliyah at just 22-years-old. The plane, which was on its way to Miami, crashed less than a minute after take-off in the Bahamas, killing seven others on board.

Now, 21 years after her tragic death, the star who was dubbed the “Princess of R&B” will soon have a posthumous album released. The lead single from the album, Poison, which features The Weeknd, has already run into controversy. So, when will Aaliyah’s new body of work “Unstoppable” be released?

Aaliyah’s posthumous album “Unstoppable” is set to be released later this month. 

The late singer’s uncle, who founded Aaliyah’s former label Blackground Records and owns the master copies of her music, confirmed to Billboard that the album is expected to be released any time this January. 

However, her uncle, Barry Hankerson, has not yet specified a date for the release.

He told the publication: “Aaliyah would love hearing herself with the current stars of the industry that she cared so much about. And that’s all I wanted to do.”

“The body of work is pure hip-hop and R&B […] Some of the people that Aaliyah liked are on the album,” he said, referring to the likes of Ne-Yo, Snoop Dogg and Future, who are all set to appear on the album. 

“She loved Snoop Dogg, who’s done a great record in collaboration with Future. Ne-Yo gave us an excellent song; also Drake. Timbaland produced the track that Chris Brown did. It’s vintage R&B with strong vocals.”

Elsewhere, some fans of the deceased singer have taken to Twitter to share in their despair of the all-male collaborators set to appear on the new release. 

“Imagine having the opportunity to create a new Aaliyah album with an entire generation of women that were directly influenced (Ciara, Teyana, Tinashe, Normani, Jhene, CxH, H.E.R., Sevyn, etc.) but instead we get Snoop Dogg, Neyo, Future, [Chris Brown] a weird Weeknd song … yikes,” one fan wrote.

“Like no females at all??!!,” another noted. “It’s mind boggling. Like I wanna listen cause it’s Aaliyah but majority of me really don’t wanna hear it.”
