The man suspected of killing 10 people in Buffalo, N.Y., posted a 180-page document online that made references to a conspiracy theory known as the “great replacement,” according to law enforcement. He wrote that he targeted the supermarket where the attack happened because it was in a predominantly Black neighborhood of Buffalo, and he wanted to kill as many Black people as possible.
The false theory has been cited by gunmen in other attacks targeting immigrants and religious, ethnic and racial minorities in recent years.
