The Duchess of Cambridge will become the latest big name to read the CBeebies Bedtime Story, joining the likes of stars Orlando Bloom, Eddie Redmayne, Dolly Parton, Sir Elton John, Tom Hardy and Ryan Reynolds.
Director of BBC Children’s and Education, Patricia Hidalgo, said: “I couldn’t be more proud to have the Duchess read a CBeebies Bedtime Story as we mark the 20th anniversary of our CBeebies and CBBC channels.”
“It’s such a special and relevant tale and perfectly represents this years’ Children’s Mental Health week theme. I can’t wait to see her deliver her own take on such a classic story and I’m sure our audience can’t either.”
Since settling into her position as a royal, the Duchess has made children and mental health her two main focuses.
She is patron of Place2Be – a children’s mental health charity – and through the Royal Foundation, remains committed to raising awareness through the newly launched Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood.
When is the Duchess of Cambridge on CBeebies?
The Duchess has chosen to read a childhood classic, The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark by Jill Tomlinson – first published in 1968.
It follows Plop, a baby owl, who grows in character and confidence to overcome his fears, thanks to the help of others.
Tomlinson’s book has even been recommended by many doctors for treating a child’s fear of the dark.
The Duchess’ reading will be on CBeebies at 18:50 on 13 February and becomes the first royal to read a bedtime story on the channel.
Finishing off the channel’s broadcasting each day at the same time, the CBeebies Bedtime Story has become a favourite with both children and parents.
