That’s what the Oakland A’s slugger faces when the MLB lockout ends.
The A’s are expected to be in sell-mode once teams are allowed to wheel and deal. Their biggest chip is the power-hitting first baseman.
MLB Trade Rumors examined the trade market for Olson and determined which teams would qualify as a “best fit.”
As you would expect, the New York Yankees made the list.
The Yankees have been speculated upon as a potential landing spot for much of the winter, with good reason. Luke Voit dealt with a series of injuries last season, and the Yankees seemed sufficiently discouraged with his health outlook to land Anthony Rizzo at the trade deadline. Rizzo’s now a free agent, and while New York could opt to roll with Voit again, there’s little question Olson would at least be a marked defensive upgrade.
Joining the Yankees on the list of best fits are the Atlanta Braves, Milwaukee Brewers, San Francisco Giants, Seattle Mariners, Texas Rangers and Minnesota Twins.
The 27-year-old left-handed slugger set career highs in home runs (39) and RBI (111) in 2021, earning his first All-Star nod in the process. And Olson is more than just a big bat. He’s won a pair of Gold Gloves at first base. On top of that, Olson remains under team control through 2023, according to Spotrac.
