You will quickly notice in Dying Light 2 that your weapons take damage with each use, and they can end up breaking entirely fairly quickly. Luckily you will be finding new weapons all the time – and will likely often find yourself with more weapons than you can actually carry – but that doesn’t ease the sadness you feel when your weapons break and disappears permanently.
If you do want to hold on to your favorite weapon in Dying Light 2, the solution is through upgrades. Some weapons – usually the better ones – can hold up to three mod slots, and you can buy blueprints for new mods from vendors dotted around the map. As long as you have the necessary components, you can add a mod to your weapon, and this will also restore some of the weapon’s durability in the process.
To make the most of your upgrades you should find a weapon you like, use it to take some durability off, and then add a mod whenever you degrade that weapon enough for the mod to heal it to a decent extent. Add a mod each time the health falls, and you’ll have your weapon last as long as possible, with those damage-boosting mods being used to their fullest.
