How many episodes are in Snowpiercer season 3 and when is the finale?

After last appearing on our screens in March 2021, Snowpiercer has finally returned to TNT in the US for its long-awaited third season.

The new instalment continues the futuristic tale of a frozen Earth where the only means of survival and transport is aboard the titular never-ending train.

However, with the arrival of the new season, Snowpiercer fans have been left asking just how many episodes season 3 will feature in total.

Snowpiercer season 3 release date and plot

Snowpiercer season 3 arrived on TNT in the US on January 24th and was followed a day later on Netflix internationally.

Following the events of season 2, which saw Layton and Ruth banished from the main Snowpiercer train, the duo have teamed up with Javier and Alexandra to form their own 10-car pirate train which they used to separate the head of Snowpiercer from its remaining 1,023 cars.

However, while the gang begin their search for the missing Melanie and a potential warm location in which to restart civilisation, Mr Wilford has consolidated power aboard Snowpiercer and is awaiting Layton’s return and a chance at revenge.

How many episodes in Snowpiercer season 3?

Season 3 of Snowpiercer will consist of 10 episodes in total.

The episode count should come as no surprise to fans as both seasons 1 and 2 featured the same number of chapters.

However, we expect that the final two episodes of season 3 will be shown as a two-part finale which also occurred in the previous two seasons.

As a result, this means the season 3 finale will likely air on March 21st or 28th depending on whether there is a break between episodes 8 and the 9-10 finale.

Will Snowpiercer return for season 4?

Yes, Snowpiercer will not end with season 3 and TNT has already renewed the series for a fourth season.

The news of Snowpiercer’s renewal came back in July 2021, just as production on season 3 came to an end.

Speaking about the renewal, TNT’s co-heads of scripted original programming, Sam Linsky and Adrienne O’Riain said: “Snowpiercer has been an incredibly successful series for us that continues to capture the imagination of viewers, grow audience and maintain strong ratings.

“All of our seasons embark on an emotional, unexpected ride and the well-plotted storylines will continue to evolve and remain relevant to audiences. We’re excited to keep the train running into Season 4.”

No release date for season 4 has been announced just yet but as seasons 2 and 3 released in January in 2021 and 2022, we expect season 4 to arrive in a year’s time in January 2023.

Snowpiercer season 3 is airing weekly on TNT and Netflix after premiering on January 24th, 2022.
