particular: Actor Matthew Lillard, best known for his roles in hit films the Scream And Scooby Doo, and writer-director Bill Whirty have launched Midnight Movie Club, an NFT-based project that allows holders to participate in the first ‘decentralized movie studio’. Lillard and Variety want to give back the power to the audience to decide which movies the company produces.
Midnight Movie Club focuses exclusively on the genre space, ie Horror, Sci-Fi, Action/Adventure and Fantasy. The first project of the newly established company is a high concept vampire Movies Topic let them die – which will go into production in the summer of 2022.
Midnight Movie Club is set up as a DAO or Decentralized Autonomous Organization, which means that the community makes decisions together. This is enabled due to blockchain technology, voting will be fair and transparent.
“NFT, Blockchain and Web3 are the future of the Internet”, say the founders. “In the years to come, this technology will revolutionize many aspects of our daily lives and the film industry is no exception. Most people think of NFTs as just artwork, but it’s the underlying technology behind them that makes Midnight Movie Club possible. MMC is a private community, such as a country club or gym, and your NFT acts as your membership card. It’s the key to the state, so to speak, and that’s how you cast your vote and help filmmakers develop their films.
Using this system, viewers will be able to vote on creative decisions to be presented to the community by the filmmakers throughout production as well as when films are flagged off. Some examples of things you’ll vote on are: deciding which actors we’ll offer first, choosing costumes, props or creature designs, choosing our movie poster designs, and more.
In addition to choosing which films the company will produce, the community will also be given exclusive access to exclusive features such as viewing audition tapes, set photos and videos, concept art and storyboards, and participating in live AMAs and live tours from set.
