The Yankees’ minor leagues are filled with high-ceiling talent. Many believe Anthony Volpe has a chance to be one of the best young shortstops in baseball. Ditto for Oswald Peraza. Outfielder Jasson Dominguez didn’t just accidentally earn the nickname “The Martian.”
But their organization isn’t the only one with tons of upside.
On Wednesday, Baseball America released its list ranking all of the farm systems in the games. The Yankees landed at No. 13. The Mariners were at the top. The Yankees were behind American League East foe the Rays (No. 2), the Orioles (No. 4) and the Red Sox (No. 11), but ahead of the Blue Jays (No. 19).

The Yankees’ system is anchored by a pair of promising shortstops in Anthony Volpe and Oswald Peraza, both of whom had breakthrough 2021 seasons. Few organizations win like the Yankees in the minor leagues, and they do it with both position and pitching talent, as exemplified by Luis Gil, Hayden Wesneski and Luis Medina.
The Yankees’ big-league roster has quite a few standout graduates from the farm system, including Brett Gardner, Aaron Judge, Luis Severino, Gleyber Torres and others.
Also on Monday, MLB announced that ex-Mets GM Omar Minaya would be joining the Commissioner’s Office. From the league:
Commissioner of Baseball Robert D. Manfred, Jr. announced today that longtime executive Omar Minaya will serve Major League Baseball as a consultant regarding amateur scouting.
Minaya will advise MLB’s Baseball Operations Department regarding both domestic and international scouting initiatives. In his role, Minaya will represent MLB with key stakeholders across amateur baseball and at industry events. Commissioner Manfred said:
“Omar is a highly respected figure across our sport who will help shape our future initiatives in the amateur space. We are pleased that he will provide his scouting expertise and experience as a senior executive with multiple MLB Clubs. We welcome Omar and look forward to his contributions.”
“For four decades, scouting has been a true passion of mine,” Minaya said. “It is an honor for me to assist Major League Baseball to ensure the scouting industry remains the lifeblood of this game. As baseball evolves, scouting has changed, and I’m excited to be part of how the industry moves forward in scouting players.”
