One of the biggest fixtures on the racing calendar awaits as the brightest and best in the National Hunt game are set to slug it out over two days of quality action at Leopardstown.

The Paddy Power Irish Gold Cup is the feature on Saturday, February 5 and we’re dangling a mouth-watering €150,000 bonus if the winner can also land the Cheltenham Gold Cup 2022. Only three horses have ever managed to do the double – Jodami (1993), Imperial Call (1996) and Sizing John (2017) – and 11 of this year’s 18 potential runners are also entered for the Cheltenham equivalent.

Kemboy won last year’s renewal and could face the likes of Minella Indo, Asterion Forlonge, Melon, Tornado Flyer, and British pair Clan Des Obeaux and Frodon. It promises to be a cracker.

If that wasn’t enough, there are three more Grade 1s on the opening day of the meeting including a fascinating Irish Arkle Novice Chase, which could see hot favourite Ferny Hollow meet stablemates Blue Lord, Saint Sam and Haut En Couleurs. Meanwhile, a few Champion Bumper clues could be dropped if American Mike, Facile Vega and Redemption Day take their chances in the Future Stars Flat Race.

Attention then turns to the eight renewals on Sunday, February 6, with the Irish Champion Hurdle being the centre of attention. Honeysuckle is the odds-on favourite to continue her incredible unbeaten career record but last year’s Supreme Novices’ Hurdle winner Appreciate It holds an entry after plans to go chasing were abandoned for the campaign.

Elsewhere on the card, we could be treated to Galopin Des Champs v Bob Olinger in the Ladbrokes Novice Chase, Chacun Pour Soi is expected to go to post in the Dublin Steeplechase, while Sir Gerhard will need to impress in the Tattersalls Ireland Novice Hurdle if he’s to press his Supreme claims.

The Dublin Racing Festival is one of the few remaining opportunities for Cheltenham Festival clues to fall into place, with Irish runners dominating our antepost betting markets after claiming most of last year’s renewals.
