during a recent meeting with academics for his off the record The podcast, Waka Flocka Flame, detailed the label drama that ruined his career in the 2010s.
They also said that the dubious transactions eventually led to Gucci Mane, Nicki Minaj and French Montana leaving Miz Entertainment – the label headed by Waka’s mother, Debra Antony.
Antony is best known as the manager who gave Gucci, Nicky and French their big break, but during the conversation, Waka is said to engage in backroom dealing behind Antony’s back in order to lure the three actors away from Mizzy. Big labels were sent in for spies.
“Labels are vicious men, that’s all I can tell you,” Waka said in the clip above. “Watch what you come up with because they’ll tear apart your entire crew to villainize someone to get the prize so they can handle it.”
Academics asked to elaborate on Waka, but he was initially hesitant to go into more detail.
“It was me, Nicky, Gucci, [OJ Da Juiceman], [French Montana]’My mom,’ Waka began. “Nicky go to my mom and say ‘Deb, you don’t need anyone other than me and Waka, right? Boom. I saw another figure coming around Nicky… Nicky was like, ‘Fuck you, I see what’s going on.’ Nikki looked at it and was like, ‘Yo deb, they’re coming for you. Everyone else isn’t loyal’ type nonsense. Smart girl.”
One of these new “stats” was noticed by Waka by Koch K, who is now the head of quality control music. Waka was suspicious of Koch’s sudden interest in Gucci because he was allied with Jeezy, Gucci’s longtime nemesis.
“So I see a man has come by the name of Coach,” he said. “Coach is on Jeezy’s side, so how are you coming here with Gucci? I’m thinking so, right? But Coach works for the label. We don’t know. We don’t know. Come to work with us. Next Thing you know, the French go there with Nicky, they get burned. It’s fire, the French did it for their career, it got lit, right? But for the n*** to turn around and No one helped you to act as s*** or made you all? You’re all lame as crap, right?”
Waka continued the story by saying that Gucci and Deb’s relationship began to sour around this time. The “No Hands” rapper said he learned the reason for Bad Blood was because even a competing label wanted Gucci, and accused music executives Joey Manda and Todd Mossowitz—who managed Gucci at one time—to “take away my what fame. Stay “Mama made.”
“Imma say this in public right here. How is it that n*** crushed our labels, now you work with them?” Waka says.
Waka ended the story by clarifying that he wasn’t hating, and recognized that everyone involved during that time was just doing business.
