Steam is a treasure trove of games, with thousands of achievements you can rack up. Some games stand out, and capture the attention of so many players that they turn into massive beasts. Even with more players taking them on, they still have some of the least-beaten achievements — ones that only a few have been able to slay.
If you’re a massive achievement hunter, then set your sights on the rarest achievements for Steam’s most-played titles of all time based on GitHyp tracking data. Do note that these time-standing giants are different from the games with most concurrent players right now, as that’s another monster for another time. We’re also skipping titles that have no achievements, like Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege and DOTA 2.
10 Destiny 2 – Seal The Deal
In Destiny 2, you are rewarded with a seal and title when you accomplish enough triumphs. What actions you need to take depends on the actual seal you’re aiming for, and this can cover anything from defeating various tiered enemies to acquiring certain items.
Only 3.9 percent of players have been able to get this achievement, which requires you to get one of the original triumph seals introduced in Forsaken. The easiest one to get is Dredgen, but you can also try for Rivensbane, Chronicler, Unbroken, Wayfarer, and Cursebreaker.
9 Garry’s Mod – Mega Upload
Garry’s Mod has seen over 1.6 billion plays over its lifetime, because of course it has. You can wreak a lot of havoc in this timeless sandbox experience, especially because it still has an extremely active modding community.
To get the Mega Upload achievement, you just need to upload something in the Steam workshop and get 1,000 likes or thumbs-ups. Getting this will also net you the 1000 Thumbs achievement, so it’s a two-in-one deal if you can garner the praise and attention.
8 Apex Legends – Apex Legend
Unlike other entries on this list, this Apex Legends achievement is actually a bit more manageable to achieve, and has a comparatively higher completion rate than others that share the “rarest achievement” spot. Still, less than a fourth of players has gotten the Apex Legend achievement in their pile because it still poses its own challenge.
Keep grinding so you can unlock eight Legends in your roster, and then keep playing until you have at least one win as each Legend. Once you have a win with eight different Legends, you’ll get the achievement.
7 Warframe – K-Driven
Warframe is a huge game that throws you into interplanetary battles in a bio-metal suit, that you can pretty flexibly gear up and tweak to match your playstyle. Almost a decade down the line, it still gets huge updates and events.
Less than one percent of players have been able to get K-Driven, likely due to the fact that Archwings are usually the preference for most players. If you’re willing to take on the challenge, all you need to do is ride a million meters with a K-Drive hoverboard.
6 ARK: Survival Evolved – Master Zoologist
You’d think that making an island full of dinos and throwing in survival crafting mechanics wouldn’t work as well as it did, and yet life finds a way. The rarest achievement in this gem of a game is Master Zoologist, which only 3.1 percent of players have gotten.
To get this achievement in ARK: Survival Evolved, you need to tame all domesticable creatures on the ark. More than a hundred creatures fit this category, so stock up on those prime meats, berries, and tranquilizer darts.
5 Rust – Death From Above
The developers are very clear with the premise of Rust. You need to survive while literally everything and everyone is trying to erase you from existence. It has sold millions of copies since its release, so it looks like everyone is down for the punishment.
Its rarest achievement requires you to kill another player with the Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS). The bulky system can deal a lot of damage, but also makes you a huge target, so make sure you pin precisely to make it worth your while.
4 Team Fortress 2 – Jackpot!
Team Fortress 2 is one of those games that will seemingly never die. It’s nearing twenty years old, and yet continues to see an active concurrent player base and updates from Valve. Among its whopping 520 achievements, the rarest one you can unlock is, naturally, the Jackpot.
To get this achievement, you need to win ten rounds of the PASS Time game mode. To be fair, this is one of the least popular game modes, and as a result you’ll likely be waiting for a long time in the queue. The difficulty with getting this is more about finding a match than even winning one.
3 Grand Theft Auto 5 – Masterminds
Despite not cracking the top ten for all-time peak players, GTA 5 manages to have one of the biggest player bases of all time for Steam. It also comfortably sits in the list of Steam titles with the most concurrent players in 2022. This is largely due to continued support from Rockstar Games and its wildly popular GTA Online mode.
Only 3.4 percent of its massive community have been able to complete Masterminds, which requires you to complete all three Criminal Mastermind Challenges in The Doomsday Heist. This is only doable in GTA Online, so you’ll want to bring some friends along for the ride.
2 PUBG: Battlegrounds – Shoot The Knee
At this point in the list, we’re talking billions of players in total cumulative tracking. So, just because the achievement is rarest in the game, it doesn’t mean it hasn’t been achieved by at least a few hundred thousand people.
Even so, Shoot the Knee has only been completed by 0.9 percent of players on Steam. To get this, you just need to kill ten players using a crossbow.
1 Counter-Strike: Global Offensive – King Of The Kill
Multiplayer shooters come and go, but CS:GO somehow remains king with over 26 billion players accumulated over time. Of course, that does include bots and dead accounts. Even if you count active concurrent players, though, it still consistently gets the top spot.
So, it seems only fitting that the crowning glory of rare achievements would be called “King of the Kill.” To get this, you need to play 5,000 matches in Demolition or Arms Race. Get grinding.
