Dragon’s Blood Season 2 is blisteringly fast-paced, and that applies to the introductions of a whole bunch of new characters including Kashurra and Auroth.

The second season of the Dota 2 anime introduced a ton of new characters. From Auroth the Winter Wyvern to the mysterious Kashurra, there are a lot of new names to remember. Based on rave reviews, these characters resonated but in most cases their role moving forward is uncertain. For those gearing up for a rewatch or wanting a rundown for potential future Dota 2 heroes, here’s all you need to know about Auroth, Kashurra, and more.

Keep in mind that this review will include tons of spoilers. If you haven’t seen DOTA: Dragon’s Blood Season 2 yet, it’s available on Netflix right now.

Who is new character Auroth in Dragon’s Blood Season 2?

Auroth, the Winter Wyvern, is a playable hero in Valve’s online MOBA. The character is heavily reimagined in DOTA: Dragon’s Blood Book 2 as a sentient dragon that takes human form.

In the game, she functions as a dedicated support and healer with some strong team fight abilities. Her Cold Embrace ability even worked its way into the show.

She loves books and poetry, which is translated to her animated incarnation. Auroth’s most defining feature in DOTA: Dragon’s Blood is her relationship with Bram, Davion’s squire from the first season. She begins an interspecies romantic relationship with him, offering his gifts from her hoard and enjoying poetry together.

Auroth in DOTA: Dragon's Blood is a reimagining of Winter Wyvern.

It’s revealed that Auroth, like most dragons, was originally a mindless beast that could be controlled by its respective Eldwyrm. She gained sentience after discovering the power of the Ancients, referred to as “the Ore.” Unlike another important dragon, Auroth only exposed herself to the Radiant ancient. This turned her into a friendly and empathic creature, and also let her take a human shape at will.

This, unfortunately, leads to her death towards the end of the season. While Bram seemed confused by their budding relationship, her death hits him hard and he even writes a poem to commemorate their time together. Based on what the anime reveals about dragon reincarnation, it’s possible that she will return in Dragon’s Blood Book 3.

Who is Bram in Dragon’s Blood?

Fans of DOTA: Dragon’s Blood will remember Bram from the first season. Bram is Davion’s squire, who mostly disappeared after the second episode besides a brief moment in the season finale. The character returns in Book 2 of DOTA: Dragon’s Blood as a connection to another powerful eldwyrm.

The new characters from DOTA: Dragon’s Blood Book 2 explained

The Dragon Knight base of Dragon Hold is destroyed in the first episode of the season, which sees him promoted to full-fledged knight status. Contrary to his character, he spends most of DOTA: Dragon’s Blood Book 2 getting cozy with Auroth the Winter Wyvern. He even mourns her after her death at the hands of Kashurra.

Who is Kashurra in Dragon’s Blood?

Kashurra is secretly the primary antagonist of DOTA: Dragon’s Blood Book 2. He is a void dragon in disguise. Like Auroth, he came into contact with a piece of an Ancient that granted him sentience and the ability to take a human form.

Kashurra is a mysterious character who starts off as a friend to Mirana. He shares a close connection with Mirana, and was one of the few people in the Helio Imperium that she recognized from her childhood.

Kashurra is an original character in DOTA: Dragon's Blood Book 2.

Kashurra plays a major role in revealing Mirana’s true ancestry as a descendant of the Worldwyrm and tried to coax it out of her by killing her parents and aiding an insurrection against her family. When this didn’t work, he arranged for her to escape which led her to Selemene. He succeeds in helping Mirana tap into her powers as the Worldwyrm by killing Marci in the final episode of the season.

Who is Vanari in Dragon’s Blood Season 2?

The mysterious Vanari appears early on in Dragon’s Blood Season 2. She’s introduced as a bounty hunter looking to capture Mirana in order to return her to the Helio Imperium but later returns and attempts to kill her.

The new characters from DOTA: Dragon’s Blood Book 2 explained

Vanari is not an established Dota 2 character. She also holds no lore ties to any heroes and seems to be a completely original character from a completely original species.

In her final appearance in DOTA: Dragon’s Blood Book 2, she is battling with Luna and reveals that she isn’t actually humanoid at all. Her real face looks like a mix of the predators from Predator and a Xenomorph from Alien. Lina cuts the battle short by killing her.

What is the Worldwyrm in DOTA: Dragon’s Blood?

The Worldwyrm is a god-like being that all existence is born from. It also seems to be the sun god of the DOTA: Dragon’s Blood universe.

In the lore, there are eight pillars of existence that are derivative of the Worldwyrm. These pillars of existence are represented by the eight Eldwyrms, collectively referred to as the Thunder.

Though it wasn’t fully explored, it is implied that some humans are descended from dragons. Davion and Lina are descendants of Slyrak, which is why the former can serve as a host body and why the latter has fire magic. In the same vein, Mirana is likely a descendent of the Worldwyrm.

Why does Mirana become the Worldwyrm when Marci dies?

Mirana can only use her powers as the Worldwyrm after experiencing feelings of grief, with the death of Marci awakening her powers in the final episode.

It seems that Kashurra was aware of this and attempted to coax this power out of her on multiple occasions. Kashurra killed Mirana’s parents when she was a child in a probable attempt to make her ascend. This didn’t work, but the death of Marci in the final episode awakened her powers.
