You probably have heard, French’s have come out with something new for summer. The ketchup popsicle.
There have been some places that have come out and already named it the worst summer treat idea ever, which is a bit extreme. Some of those carnival foods you hear about would certainly rank right up there. And most of these people seem to be from the U.S., a country where you can’t even buy ketchup potato chips, so can we really trust their judgement on the tangy flavour of ketchup?
But it does seem a bit weird. Even the true ketchup lovers amoung us would likely approach this treat with some caution.
But then again, the big thing people were talking about last summer was macaroni and cheese flavoured ice cream. I love me some mac and cheese, but the though of that particular flavour of ice cream does nothing for me. And this year you can get a soft serve version at the Calgary Stampede. Sorry. Not enough to make me change my travel plans for the summer.
I did think it was interesting that they brought these ketchup pops out saying they were a “limited edition”. Almost like they were trying to tell us they knew we weren’t going to buy them twice. But it might be worth a try once.
Then again, could you make your own. You would probably have to work on the consistency a bit. Maybe thin down the ketchup a touch before putting a stick in it and tossing it into the freezer. Might be worth experimenting.
The thing is, I like ketchup. It’s one of my favourite condiments. A must have with many foods. It’s one of those things that goes very well when paired with other foods. But on it’s own? That’s the part I’m not sure of.
But I may still try one, just to say I did. Maybe with a side of fries.
And if they run out of stock, or can’t find a truck available to ship them to me, that’s okay. My summer will still be just fine.
Not all supply chain issues are created equal.
