#1 Hi Chayan! Welcome to OnlyLoudest! Before we begin, can you please introduce yourself to our readers?
Hi, thanks for allowing me to share my journey in this awesome blog. Hi all, this is Chayan Chakrabarti. Computer Application Graduate with education and a digital marketer by profession.
#2 Could you please share with us how you entered the digital market and what made you stay?
In my professional life, I worked with many domains like billing, sales, isp, finance. One of my employees was expanding their Digital Marketing side and they put me and 20 other people on the team to develop a website and do on-page and off-page SEO. So that was my first entry in Digital Marketing back in late 2017.
#3 How did you come up with the idea of Simple Facts Online and what makes it unique from the other sites of the same niche?
You may find it interesting. So after I have completed my office project, I decided to learn more about Digital Marketing. I joined an offline training institute and they said that I have to get a domain name. I did not know anything about the types of domains, extensions etc. I didn’t know about niches either, I am a simple guy and I love simplifications. It makes the job easy. So after thinking for 12 hours I came up with this name and it was available online. I just went ahead with the same.
Now if I go back to your second question. I am not an expert in the niche as I am still learning. As you know, there are millions of challenges that we face in our marketing journey. From SEO to graphics, paid ads to content creation. So instead of claiming mastery, one digital marketing blogger should simplify the process. This was my intent from day one and I still firmly believe that.
#4 Can you share what your job profile at Google Ads is? And how do you manage your job and blogging at the same time?
I work as a Google Ad Strategist. My job role is to optimize my Google ad account performance at an enterprise level.
#5 What motivates you to do your best?
I like to call myself a self-motivator. But at times, motivation keeps changing with the situation. So as human beings the best we can do is act sensitively as per the situation and go with the flow.
#6 Google Ads and your side hustle are quite a combination. Please tell us how working at this top agency helps you with optimising your blogging business?
Google ads are like an ocean and I am a tiny little part of it. I enjoyed the learning I received at my workplace. However, at SimpleFactsOnline, I try to get results via organic methods and social media.
#7 What is your day-to-day work routine? What is your favourite part about working on your blog?
I work for a Canadian client. So my shift starts at 11.30 pm at night and finishes the next day at 8.30 am. That’s sleep time for most of you, right? Jokes apart. I work this shift from Monday to Friday. Then I start working on my blog till 2 pm.
Then I have my lunch and sleep. Wake up at around 10.30 pm and have my dinner and start my next day shift.
With my blog I love the way I get the opportunity to speak with like-minded people like you.
#8 Thank you Chayan! Talking with interesting people like you is also the best part of my work. Please tell us, how much time do you take from searching for a blog topic to publishing it on your blog? Would you mind sharing the complete process.
I follow a very simple approach. I use tools like Frase and Writerzen so after I find the keyword I create an outline like this.
So it never takes more than an hour to create the outline. After that, I write the beginning and end part in a relaxed mind so that I can be aware of what I am trying to share.
After that I read a few other blog posts so that I can provide the best value with the external links, then I select and optimize the resources at my site for internal linking. After that, I will work on the images and screenshots. Create a folder and save it.
This whole process can take up to a week or 3 to 5 days based on how much time I am giving towards it.
#9 What are the common mistakes that new bloggers make?
Mistakes are part of every blog. If a new blogger thinks he is not supposed to make mistakes, then I would say that will be the biggest mistake. When someone is learning and implementing the process.
However, a blogger has to adapt to the process real soon. The blogging community won’t entertain half-written posts, copy-paste articles and so on.
#10 Apart from SimpleFactsOnline, what are your other blogs and please share what revenue models you use to monetize them?
I plan to start one more blog in the blogging niche back in 2019, the domain name is sourceblogging.com. However, I have not started working towards it yet.
There are a few micro niche blogs that are run and monetized by Adsense and for SimpleFacts, I rely on affiliate marketing.
#11 Who inspired you for blogging? Name a few favourite blogs that you follow?
Like 90% of other Indian bloggers, I was also inspired by Harsh Agarwal. I purchased my first ever hosting (Bluehost) from his affiliate link. We also have one more thing in common. He used to work at the same organization where I have also worked. Though I haven’t had the chance yet to meet him or connect with him in person.
Other than that, here are a few bloggers who have always been kind to me. Here are a few names:
- Ryan Biddulph
- Nikola Roza
- Anthony Gaenzle
- Santosh Gairola
- Vishwajeet Kumar
- Bishnu Mahali
- Sourabh Rana
- Amit Mishra
- Santanu Debnath
- Sayem Ibn kashem
- Joy Dhar
#12 You’ve mentioned on your blog that 65% of people struggle in the Digital Marketing field. What are your suggestions for this 65% out there?
Digital Marketing is a big ocean. As a digital marketer, you can’t have it all. The sooner a digital marketer will accept this, the better his journey/career will become.
For example, I do pretty well when it comes to sales, writing and social media. But I have a lot of scope for improvements when it comes to editing, camera presence and many other things. For any aspiring digital marketer, my suggestion would be to find your skills and passions.
#13 People usually ask “How can I drive digital traffic to my site immediately?”. What are your thoughts about this?
The new site takes a few months to get organic traffic, even if the competition is moderate or lower. So if a site owner needs instant traffic then he should focus on things like social media, referral traffics & paid ads
#14 How much time does someone need to invest each month to improve their Google rankings?
Google has over 200 ranking factors, however, there are a few best practices a blogger can follow to get a faster ranking. I think if a blogger can utilize the time and spend around 6 average daily hours, the ranking can improve.
#15 How can someone avoid Google penalties?
Well, it’s a tricky question. I would say a webmaster can avoid penalties by being authentic. If you are sharing original content, do not use any shady tricks to bring traffic and do not create spammy backlinks, you are pretty well covered.
#16 What emerging marketing trends have you identified that could affect our industry?
Digital marketing is a lucrative career option. However, these days we see everyone wants to become a coach. People’s awareness is also required. I ran from pillars to posts to start my digital marketing career. I made a lot of mistakes and learned many things, but I would still love to call myself a practitioner rather than an expert. Shiny object syndrome is fatal for a digital marketer.
#17 If any of your online campaigns receive negative feedback via social media or any other platform, how do you respond?
The best way to overcome negative responses is to try to find the root cause of that feedback. Why does that person give negative feedback? How did he land that campaign? What were his expectations? What was unheard of?
Sometimes, they may share some improvements. So we have to accept that and be better each day.
#18 What digital marketing tools do you use? How did you select these tools?
I don’t follow any particular selection criteria. The tools I use are to make my work easy. Here are a few of them
- Google Docs For Writing The Post
- Tipping to Optimize the Image
- Semrush for Keyword Research
- Grammarly for Proofreading
- Frase & writerzen for creating content outline
- GeneratePress premium Theme As It Lets You Build Multiple Sites With One License
- Elementor pro for a page builder
#19 How do you measure the success of your content marketing and digital marketing efforts?
I am very grateful for blogging and digital marketing. The kind of recognition I received in just two years as a part-time blogger, I would not have received the same in any industry.
#20 What is your biggest accomplishment?
So far, I would say in my Facebook Group, we are around 9k members now and the kind of professional networking we do there is simply amazing.
#21 What is your goal in blogging at the end of 2021?
I would like to invest more time in blogging and improve my designing skills. Being a side hustler, that’s my biggest challenge
#22 We would appreciate it if you could share some tips and tactics that you’ve learnt while growing your business?
Online business demands full-time attention. As a marketer, you should know the products & services that you are offering and follow the latest trends and you have to have to find a USP for your business.
