The Bellaire Citizens Action Group will host a fundraiser May 21 to help raise money for the organization to continue its efforts to clean and beautify the village.
Jim Williams, president of the group, said the group was established in 2014 to help make a difference in the community by picking up litter on the roadways and completing projects to help beautify the area.
“We’re a small group that formed to try and do what we could to make the village look better. … We want to improve the look of the community and help with its beautification,” he said.
On Thursday, the group was picking up trash at the park, weeding and replanting flowers.
In order to continue their work and help make an impact on the community, members of the group have decided to hold a fundraising event at Union Park. Andrea Nutter, a member of the group, said all are welcome to attend the BCAG Spring Craft and Vendor Show. She said the event will be free to attendees, though they will be accepting donations.
“We’re trying to raise money for our group. We haven’t done a fundraiser in eight years and the money that we raised from that, those funds have depleted over the years. The money allows us to continue to do projects that we have planned, community cleanup and improvements,” she said.
In the past, a number of residents and businesses have donated to the group to support its efforts including JB Green Team, Danny Frizzi, Jim Tarbet, the Sons of Italy, Gerardo’s, Bellaire Business Alliance, ICR Supply and Mayor Ed Marling and Susan Marling . She said JB Green Team continues to supply members with the necessary tools for picking up trash like grabbers, gloves and garbage bags.
Nutter said the event will include all-day entertainment, food and vendors.
The spring fundraiser will take place from 9 am to 7 pm May 21 at Union Park.
Williams said they currently only have a handful of members but are always looking for new members and volunteers. The group meets at 6 pm on the second Tuesday of every month at the veterans administration building.
Those interested in joining or learning more about the organization can call Nutter at 740-827-6592.
