This post features different solutions if Fortnite is not saving game settings in Windows 11/10. Developed by Epic Games, Fortnite is a popular online multiplayer game available for Windows PC. The game features unique graphics, sound, and control settings that you won’t find in any other Battle Royale. But like any other game, Fortnite isn’t free from problems. Many users have reported that their settings keep resetting on Fortnite. Worry not if you are struggling with the same problem as well. Just try the solutions below to get rid of the issue.

Fortnite settings not saving; keep resetting on PC

Why does Fortnite not keep my settings?

One of the significant reasons Fortnite is not keeping your settings is the GameUserSettings.ini file. If this file is saved under Read-only mode, you will face the problem in the question. The issue can also occur due to the following reasons.

  1. If the Controller folder access is enabled, it’s no surprise you are facing the problem.
  2. The issue can also occur due to corrupted game files.
  3. A third-party antivirus program can also be the primary reason behind the problem in the question.

Now that you know all the primary culprits behind the problem let’s check out how to eliminate them.

Fortnite not saving game settings on PC

If Fortnite is not saving game settings and they keep resetting on your Windows 11/10 PC, then take a look at these suggestions:

  1. Disable the Read-only settings
  2. Turn off Controlled folder access
  3. Disable third-party antivirus program
  4. Verify Fortnite files

Now, let’s take a look at all the solutions in detail.

1] Disable the Read-only settings

For most users, the problem was solved by disabling the Read-only settings. To be very specific, the issue was resolved by turning off the Read-only option of the GameUserSettings.ini file. So, you can try the same and check if it solves the problem for you. Here’s how to do it.

  1. Open the Run dialogue box by pressing the Windows + R shortcut key.
  2. In the space provided, type %localappdata% and click on the OK.
  3. The Local folder will pop up.
  4. Locate and open the FortniteGame folder.
  5. Navigate to Saved > Config > WindowsClient.
  6. In the result window, right-click on GameUserSettings.ini, and choose Properties from the context menu.
  7. Uncheck the Read-only box.
  8. Click on Apply > OK.

That’s it. Launch the game and check if you can save the settings.

2] Turn off Controlled folder access

Controlled folder access

Controlled folder access stops the user from making any changes in the protected folders. If this feature is enabled, you will face the problem in the question. It turns out that it can stop the game from modifying the files to save the settings. You will have to disable this feature to solve the problem. Here are the steps you need to follow to turn off Controlled Folder access.

  1. Open the Start menu, type Windows Security, and press the enter key.
  2. Click on Virus & threat protection present on the left panel of the screen.
  3. Click on the Manage ransomware protection options present under Ransomware protection.
  4. In the following window, disable the toggle present under Controlled folder access.

Now, launch the game and check if the problem is fixed or not. If yes, you will have to permanently allow Fortnite through Controlled folder access. To do so, follow the below steps.

Allow an app through controlled folder access

  1. Under the Ransomware protection window, click on Allow an app through controlled folder access.
  2. Click on Add an allowed app.
  3. Select Browse all apps.
  4. Select the Fortnite exe file and click on Open.

That’s it. Launch the game, and you will see that you can save the settings. But in case the problem continues, try the next solution on the list.

3] Disable third-party antivirus program

As mentioned, the major reason you are facing the problem can be a third-party antivirus program. As it turns out, many antivirus utility comes with controlled folder access like features. 4] Verify Fortnite files

If none of the above steps were helpful, the possibility is high that the problem is being caused due to corrupted game files. In this case, you will have to verify Fortnite files. Here are the steps you need to follow.

  1. Open Epic Games Launcher on your Windows PC.
  2. Click on the Library option and choose Fortnite.
  3. Click on the three dots and choose Verify option.
  4. Wait until the process is complete.
