COLLINSVILLE, Ill. (WAND) — Ameren Illinois has launched a new 12-month repayment option to help customers who are behind on their energy bills.
Eligible customers will now be able to set up a 12-month repayment plan by making a 10% down payment. This offer is available for those customers who apply by July 31.
“The decision to extend the 100% down payment option was made in response to the economic difficulties some customers are experiencing due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and high natural gas supply costs,” said Joe Solari, VP of Customer Experience, Ameron Illinois. “We want to make sure our customers have every opportunity to help maintain the energy services they need.”
To set up a payment plan, customers can self-service through the Amerindian Illinois website, by automated phone services, or by speaking with a customer service representative during normal business hours. Visit AmerenIllinois.com/EnergyAssistance Or call 800-755-5000.
After July 31, most customers with outstanding balances will have to pay 25% of their outstanding balance before setting up a monthly payment plan.
In addition to repayment plans, approximately $150 million in utility bill assistance is available through the state-administered Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
Customers whose income is 200% or less of the federal poverty level are eligible for assistance.
Ameren explains that the federal poverty level is based on family size and the applicant’s household income for the past 30 days. For example, a family of four with an income below $4,417/month may be eligible for this assistance. Documentation required includes, but is not limited to: proof of income for the past 30 days and a Social Security number or individual taxpayer identification number for all household members. Customers can apply for assistance till May 31, 2022.
“We cannot stress enough how important it is that eligible customers take action today to apply for LIHEAP funding,” Solari said. “These resources are available and they need to be used. We want to make sure our customers get what they need for every dollar available.”
Some customers may also be eligible to receive payment assistance through Warm Neighbors Cool Friends.
WNCF is an Energy Assistance Foundation program funded primarily through contributions from American employees and customers, which provides energy bill payment assistance to those who do not normally qualify for federal or state heating assistance. Huh.
