Becoming comfortable in her own skin has been a journey for Eboni K. Williams. The Real Housewives of New York City rookie recently opened up about her “debilitating” struggle with acne and how her relationship with makeup has changed over the years.
“Anybody that’s suffered with [acne] or continues to suffer with it will tell you how it really impacts your whole life,” she revealed in an interview with Us Weekly. “It’s very difficult to feel good in this world — especially in this Instagram world — when you don’t feel good about the skin you’re in.”
Eboni battled “severe” acne in her late tweens and early twenties, causing her to feel “dependent” on wearing foundation to cover up her skin. “I wouldn’t go to the grocery store without a full face,” the RHONY attorney said. “That just felt really debilitating.”
After trying various treatments including Accutane and Retin-A, Eboni finally found a skincare routine that helped her feel more confident than ever. Her tried and true brand: SkinCeuticals. For eight years she’s been using the brand’s C E Ferulic serum ($166), which she called her “holy grail” vitamin C serum. Eboni also uses the brand’s A.G.E. Eye Complex ($100) to combat eye bags as well as the Physical Fusion UV Defense ($35) as her daily sunscreen.
Additionally, Eboni’s beauty arsenal includes CVS Moisturizing Facial Lotion ($12) to hydrate her skin and Shani Darden Skin Care Retinol Reform ($88) to address signs of aging. The RHONY cast member completes her stash with Clean and Clear Persa Gel 10 ($5), which, according to Eboni, is the “best spot treatment on the market.”
Armed with products that work for her, Eboni said she’s able to appreciate makeup as opposed to relying on it. “Getting my skin to a place where I’m confident walking out with just some moisturizer on and feeling as beautiful as I do with a full face has been a process,” she said. “I love makeup and I love glam, but it starts really at the foundation of the skin. That’s your canvas. Having what I call ‘makeup optional skin’ is really important.”
