In this week’s new movies on VOD, Adrien Brody writes, produces, and stars in the new action thriller Clean, playing a garbage man with a history of violence who just wants to live an honest life. Unfortunately for him, it’s not going to be that simple thanks to his entanglement with a Russian mobster.
And for Alicia Silverstone, taking a vacation isn’t that simple either. In The Requin, Silverstone stars with Big Little Lies‘ James Tupper as a married couple whose vacation in Vietnam takes an unexpected turn after their beach cabana is destroyed by a tsunami and they find themselves adrift at sea in the film written and directed by Le-Van Kiet.
And then there’s the Danish film A Taste of Hunger, which stars Game of Thrones’ Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as a chef named Carsten who is desperate for his Copenhagen restaurant to receive a Michelin star. The role is miles away from Jaime Lannister, though Coster-Waldau proves once again that he’d adept at playing alpha males with a sensitive inner core. His wife, played by Katrine Greis-Rosenthal, runs the restaurant with him, and we see glimpses of their past told in flashbacks, from their meet-cute to an affair that threatens their union, while weaving in the current-day plot that sees them having to deliver the most important meal of their lives. The things we do for love! And also food!
These are just a few of the titles that are available to watch on Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, YouTube, and through your cable service this week. Check out what movies are available to buy or rent on demand now!
They say it right there in the trailer, the trash man wasn’t always a trash man. Adrien Brody co-wrote this crime thriller, in which he stars as a garbage man nicknamed Clean, who has a history with the some dangerous crime bosses. Like so many men before him, from John Wick to Bob Odenkirk’s Hutch Mansell in last year’s Nobody, Clean is trying his best to leave his hit-man past behind, but he can’t help but get sucked back in to the life in an attempt to protect Dianda, a girl he knows who reminds him of his own daughter who died. Clean is an action film, a redemption film, and a definite chance of pace from the Brody we’ve come to recognize more for his Wes Anderson roles, but the film certainly underlines Brody’s range.

Okay, okay, so you’ve been stuck in your house for two years now, and I’m about to suggest a movie that will ruin tropical vacations for you, SORRY. Alicia Silverstone and James Tupper star as Jaelyn (yup) and Kyle, a couple who take a vacation in Vietnam, choosing to stay in an overwater bungalow. “Is it safe?” Jaelyn’s friend asks over FaceTime, to which she responds “I hope!” LOL, it’s not. A torrential storm rips the cabin off it’s pilings, and they are swept out to sea. If the dehydration and lack of shelter wasn’t enough, enter: SHARKS. Hence the name of the film. (A requin is a type of shark, as I just discovered.) I mean, honestly maybe the point of this movie is to make us not feel bad that we haven’t taken a real vacation in years, because look at what happens when you do.
