Originallyblindspotting actress and #free ratio Emmy winner Jasmine Cephas Jones was roped in to headline Karen Kusama min Harker, With the cameras set to roll in three weeks.
However, production did not proceed, and sources say that Miramax broke out over creative differences with the filmmaker. The crew was informed hours in advance.
The film was to be set in contemporary Los Angeles, centered on protagonist Mina Harker, who plays opposite Dracula in the film, with the classic Bram Stoker protagonist known as Vladimir in the film. Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi wrote the screenplay based on Bram Stoker’s Dracula; Both the authors are frequent collaborators of Kusma.
Kusama was producing the film with Jason Blum, Hey, Manfredi and Miramax’s Bill Block. B Sequeira is an EP and will oversee the film for Blumhouse.
Kusama most recently served as EP and pilot director on Showtime’s hit series yellow Jacket. Prior to this, he did a Golden Globe-nominated L.A. noir. had directed Destroyer, Starring Nicole Kidman as a police detective on the edge.
