According to an exclusive report by
The Times of India, the making of the ‘Baahubali’ series has been paused by OTT platform Netflix, for now.
The project has now been handed over to producer Siddharth Kumar Tewary, under his banner Swastik Productions. The company is well-known for making periodic features.
A source revealed to
ETimes that new creative producers from Bombay Fables have been appointed. “The project which has now been paused has Bombay Fables taking over as creative producers,” the quote read.
Initially, ‘Baahubali’ director SS Rajamouli was given the task to make the prequel series, but he opted out later.
After him, ‘Jannat’ director Kunal Deshmukh was selected for the project who also exited the project, as per the ETimes report. Film-maker Anurag Singh of ‘Kesari’ fame was also being considered for the project, but there was not further clarity on the same.
Last year, actress Mrunal Thakur also backed out of the prequel series after Rajamouli’s exit due to lack of clarity of the team.
Reports say that actress Wamiqa Gabbi will now essay the role of Sivagami Devi. The character was played by Ramya Krishnan in the movie franchise. South superstar Nayanthara, who will make her digital debut, is still a part of the project.
The prequel series will trace the life of Shivagami and how she became the mighty warrior queen.
Reportedly, the streaming giant has locked in a budget of Rs 200 crore for the much-awaited series.
