Army Day is celebrated in India on January 15 every year as a celebration of Kodandera M Cariappa taking charge of the Indian Army from the British. On the special occasion, let’s take a look at some films and web-series celebrating the Indian Army.
State Of Seige: 26/11
Starring Arjun Bijlani, Arjan Bajwa, Mukul Decv, Sid Makkad and Tara Alisha Berry in leading roles, State Of Seige:26/11 narrates all that happened in Indian Army’s operation to save as many lives as possible. The show is based on Sandeep Unnithan’s book Black Tornado: The Three Sieges of Mumbai 26/11.
Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani’s Shershaah was widely appreciated when it started streaming last year. The film follows the life of Param Vir Chakra-awardee Captain Vikram Batra from his first army posting to his death in the Kargil war.
The Forgotten Army- Azaadi Ke Liye
Yet another power-packed show focusing on the bravery of the Subhas Chandra Bose-led Indian National Army and the the fight for the country’s independence during the British Raj. Sunny Kaushal and Sharvari Wagh played the lead roles in the series.
Uri: The Surgical Strike
Vicky Kaushal’s epic film that opened up new doors for him in the film industry, Uri: The Surgical Strike released in January 2019. The film was a fictional, dramatised account of a covert operation carried out by the Indian army, in retalliation to the 2016 Uri attacks
Hrithik Roshan-starrer Lakshya was a fictional tale set in the backdrop of the Kargil war. The film also starred Amitabh Bachchan and Preity Zinta and told the story of a young and reckless man who transforms into a great soldier.
Bhuj: The Pride of India
Ajay Devgn and Sonakshi Sinha’s Bhuj: The Pride Of India is based on the Indo-pak War of 1971 and showed that anything is possible with dedication and unity. Based on a true story, the film shows how Indian Air Force Squadron Leader Vijay Karnik, with the help of 300 local women, reconstructed the damaged landing strip in 72 hours.
Avrodh: The Siege Within
Amit Sadh and Neeraj Kabi play the lead role in this action-packed web-series. It is based on a chapter from the book India’s Most Fearless, written by Rahul Singh and Shiv Aroor. The series follows the 2018 Uri surgical strike.
