Following a leak, players threaten to boycott the Anniversary Collection event due to the potential price of the Prestige Bloodhound skin.
Apex Legends just turned three years old, and to celebrate, Respawn Entertainment is planning to host a new Anniversary Collection event. As with previous years, this update gives players the chance to unlock a number of exciting skins for the many Legends included in the game, such as Fuse, Wattson, and even Mad Maggie, the latest addition to the character roster. While these new cosmetics are supposed to commemorate 3 years of the battle royale, one particular skin has left many members of the Apex Legends community frustrated.
Among the cosmetics revealed during the Defiance Gameplay Trailer for Season 12, fans received a look at the new Prestige skin for Bloodhound. This impressive-looking skin for the Technological Tracker came with several new animations and an exclusive finisher. Doubtlessly, this new look for the Legend had the many Bloodhound mains in the game drooling. Unfortunately for those looking to pick up this cosmetic, new details have revealed that obtaining the skin might be easier said than done.
Why Apex Legends Players Are Boycotting The New Bloodhound Skin
In a leak from February 3, gamers learned possible details about the release of the Prestige Bloodhound skin. According to this new information, the skin was reportedly taking the place of the heirlooms associated with previous Collection events for Apex Legends. As a result, players would be required to obtain all the exclusive cosmetics available during this 3rd-anniversary event in order to unlock this new look for Bloodhound. With a potential 24 total cosmetics, the cost of obtaining the Prestige skin could run close to $164. As one might expect, this leak did not sit well with some gamers.
Since learning about this latest leak for the Prestige Bloodhound skin in Apex Legends, numerous players have taken to Reddit to express their discontent. While some admitted that it looked impressive, the main sticking point for many fans was the possible exorbitant price tag attached to the skin. For many, the issue came down to whether this cosmetic should be considered as valuable as the heirlooms released during previous Collection events.
According to numerous gamers on Reddit, the answer to that question appeared to be an emphatic no. Some players, such as hootboy2000000, went so far as to suggest that the Apex Legends community should refrain from purchasing cosmetics during the event and promoted the hashtag “BoycottApexAnniversary.” Since making this suggestion on Reddit, over 10.7K people have upvoted the post.
It’s worth noting that this leak about the Prestige Bloodhound skin has not been confirmed by the developers at Respawn Entertainment. As a result, it could prove to be false. However, it will be interesting to see if calls to boycott the event gain traction among community members if the leak is correct.
