Skins are a prominent feature in almost every battle royal game, and Apex Legends is no exception. Apex Legends stands as one of the best games for newcomers to the genre, similar to Fortnite, Call of Duty: Warzone, and Fall Guys. Its skins are nothing to scoff at as well, with well-detailed and painstakingly crafted character designs enabling players to stylize their Legend.
These customizations are available in the form of skins, earnable and often purchasable attires players have the option of obtaining. Players must remain vigilant, as some skins available to them may only be acquired during specific events. And some skins have abysmal drop rates that can only be obtained through Apex Packs – loot boxes that provide random cosmetics.
Dark Cloud (Caustic)
Dark Cloud is a unique skin belonging to the Legend, Caustic, as it has prerequisites that need to be completed before a player can think of even obtaining it. This, along with its brief appearance, made it a coveted skin that could only be obtained through crafting the Divine Right skin.
This is a skin extremely similar in appearance to the Dark Cloud skin, except for the fact that it’s of a different color palette. In contrast to the white outfit with the eye band, the Dark Cloud skin features a black outfit along with a black eye band. Its last appearance was in May of 2019, requiring 10,5000 Legend Tokens, along with the aforementioned Divine Right skin.
The Trophy Hunter (Caustic)
The Legend Caustic possesses the legendary exclusive skin, The Trophy Hunter. This skin has two prerequisites, the Blackheart skin, and 10,5000 Legend Tokens. The skin sports a thick white coat along with tactical items equipped to the torso, and to top it all off, it features a predominantly white gas mask-like mask with two black filters that poke out of each side of its cheeks.
The Trophy Hunter made its first appearance in April of 2019 and its most recent return in April of 2022. As of March 2022, only 0.005 percent of players use the skin, a mark of its rarity. Players should note that it is a recolored version of the Blackheart skin.
Shell-Shocked (Gibraltar)
Shell-Shocked is a legendary exclusive skin belonging to the Legend Gibraltar, a clever recoloring of the Ride or Die skin belonging to the same Legend. Though this game is one of the best first-person shooters, it’s unfortunate that the user of this skin has a limited perspective to see it.
It should be noted that the Ride or Die skin is a requirement for players who wish to unlock this skin, along with 6,500 Legend Tokens. With a yellow vest and orange hard hat, it’s obvious the skin takes inspiration from the equipment donned usually by construction workers. This, paired with the bright green long-sleeved shirt and orange steel cuffs make for a pop-out skin sure to attract the envy of others. Shell-Shocked made its last appearance in February of 2022.
Midnight Cipher (Crypto)
This skin made its first appearance as part of the Prince of Darkness bundle back in the Fight or Fright 2020 Event for the Legend, Crypto. The skin reappeared during the Monsters Within Event in 2021 as part of a bundle. Ghoulified with pale skin and dark veins coursing through the character’s skin, this Crypto legendary skin is a coveted item that has so far only made two appearances.
Its opposition to the default cool and modern Crypto sparked a lot of interest among fans of the Legend, as it was a skin suitable to play even after the spooky season was over. Since then, players have clamored for a rerun of the skin’s bundle. The Midnight Cipher skin boasts a use rate of 0.005 percent among the Apex Legends community.
Vaporwave (Wattson)
The legendary exclusive skin, Vaporwave, has only ever made one appearance. It appeared in the Apex Store in January of 2020 as a recolor of the Fly-By-Wire skin belonging to the Legend, Wattson. As the name may suggest, the main appeal of the skin to players is the vibrant colors that cover the character’s outfit, its pattern, and rhythm resembling that of a vaporware effect as players maneuver with it.
To unlock the skins players had to obtain the Fly-By-Wire skin, as well as fund the crafting of it with 6,500 Legend Tokens. Players still mourn the disappearance of the skin and yearn for a rerun.
Center Stage (Mirage)
Center Stage is the legendary exclusive skin of Mirage. With a predominantly red and white patterned skin, its red-tinted sports goggles and ski-like gear make for a very bright look sure to draw the attention of friends and foe alike once on the battlefield.
Its last appearance was in November of 2021 when it was available for 1,800 Apex Coins, or for players interested in crafting it, they could do so with the Angel City Hustler skin and 10,500 Legend Tokens. Only 0.004 percent of players have equipped the skin and made it out onto the battlefield with it, as of March 2022.
Born In Blood (Gibraltar)
This skin was part of a bundle exclusive, more specifically the Fight or Fright 2020 Event and the Monsters Within Event. In its first release, the Gibraltar skin cost 4,000 Apex Coins, as along with it, players were given other cosmetics. However, in the Monsters Within Event, the price was reduced to 2,150 Apex Coins.
The skin features a pupilless Gibraltar with black sclera and blood-red skin. It was immediately popular with fans of the game as at the time it stood out compared to most of the other skins, not to mention Gibraltar’s popularity as a Legend at the time.
Hack Frost (Crypto)
Hack Frost was a legendary Crypto skin that made a total of three appearances over the years – first in 2019, then in 2020, and finally in December of 2021 during the Holo-Day Sale as part of a bundle. A snow-covered outfit with pale blue skin, the character’s frosted hair stands on end as if frozen at its zenith.
No doubt when players first saw this skin they immediately thought of the iconic holiday figure, Jack Frost. Because of its iconic appearance, it was widely coveted by players as a bizarre video game skin suitable to collect, and yet even with that, Hack Frost has only a 0.003 percent use rate, making it the least worn skin.
SRVN MRVN (Pathfinder)
Dapper and fashionable, those two words are the most aptly appropriate to use when describing this skin. Belonging to Pathfinder, the SRVN MRVN skin puts the gentle robot with one of the most tragic backstories in Apex Legends into a tuxedo-like coating featuring a gold lining, black trim, a curled mustache adorning the Legend’s lips, and a fancy red bowtie to top it all off.
This skin made four appearances, the latest of which was in February of 2022 as part of a bundle and for only 1,800 Apex Coins on the Apex Item Store. Note that it also featured a recolor, Friendly Fire. It’s a less attractive version but appealing nonetheless.
Clocktane (Octane)
As the name implies, the subject of this skin is time, as in the Legend Octane has a clock on the center of their chest. This skin received great approval from both players and Octane fans alike, with its slick yet intriguing design.
Clocktane is a skin that redoes the character’s design in a predominantly gold outfit with a green clock that stands out as the main subject of the skin. It made its most recent appearance as part of a bundle in February of 2022.
