Apex Legends has often been described as a mixture of Call of Duty and Fortnite, but it’s undeniable that the game has brought unique aspects to the Battle Royale genre. While popular battle royales like Fortnite and PUBG have playable characters, Apex brought its characters to life by giving them personalities and quips that they say during gameplay.
They also have their own unique set of abilities that further differentiate each character. One of the most interesting aspects is that the characters even have relationships. Revenant and Loba, for example, didn’t always get along so well due to him killing her parents, so they tend to insult each other during gameplay. Based on abilities and personalities, Apex Legends has some cool characters with interesting backstories who make the game even more exciting to play.
10 Valkyrie
Valkyrie aspired to be like her father Viper, who went missing when she was a child. Since then, she’s lived her life following his footsteps, becoming one of the best pilots and fighting outlaws. No matter what, Valkyrie never forgot her father and it was always her main mission to get revenge on the man who caused his disappearance.
With the inclusion of Valkyrie, other legends like Pathfinder and Wraith definitely felt less relevant due to how fast Valkyrie can relocate with her team. Valkyrie is also one of the best legends to counter third partying since she can quickly take the team to a new location.
9 Bloodhound
Bloodhound’s childhood was incredibly different from other legends, having grown up in a village after losing their parents. Bloodhound believes in the Old Ways, which makes them more religious and in tune with nature than the others.
Bloodhounds’ faith in the Old Ways makes them one of the more interesting characters. Not only that, but they’re also the only nonbinary legend in the game. Their ability to track other players makes them one of the most useful characters on a team.
8 Lifeline
Lifeline is the daughter of war profiteers and chose to take a different path from her parents by enlisting in a corporation that helps out Frontier communities. Her reasoning for being in the Apex games is to donate her winnings to those in need.
Even though many fans were upset about the huge updates Apex Legends made that changed Lifeline’s abilities, she’s still a great character. Lifeline is one of the best support characters in the game, even with all of the nerfs due to her fast healing and not having to be stationary while reviving a teammate.
7 Gibraltar
After Gibraltar and his boyfriend stole his father’s motorcycle, the two got stuck in a dangerous mudslide. Gibraltar’s father lost an arm trying to save the two, and Gibraltar then dedicated his life to helping those in need. Gibby joined the Apex games to protect his friends the way that his parents protected him.
Gibraltar is loved by many fans for his charming and protective personality. His giant shield is great at helping the team when in a pinch, protecting them from Bangalore and Fuse ults, while also giving everyone time to safely loot without being attacked.
6 Fuse
Fuse is a confident mercenary, who is known to rush into action without having a plan, but still, somehow pulled things off. He spent many years fighting as a gladiator in the Bonecage but always dreamed of joining the Apex Games. However, he had to fight Mad Maggie to make it in.
There’s no denying that Fuse is the coolest character on Apex. He’s everything Mirage wishes he was, but effortlessly so. He gives off classic rock and roll vibes, and the Australian accent is icing on the cake. His explosive abilities match his personality well and make him great to use since he can attack without carrying a weapon.
5 Octane
Before joining the Apex games, Octane was known to put himself in many near-death experiences for fun. He would constantly do stunts, and one day launched himself with a grenade to beat a world record, which led to him losing his legs. Instead of giving up stunts for good, he had a friend create bionic legs for him, which enhanced his speed and helped him get into more danger.
Octane is one of the most popular characters as he always has a high pick rate, there’s almost always an Octane on the team. He’s also developed a bad reputation due to many Octane players running off on their own and not working together. Despite the negative reputation Octane players have, it’s obvious many choose Octane because he’s fun to play.
4 Wraith
Wraith was experimented on in a lab, with no memory of her past life. Due to the experiments, she’s able to create rifts that teleport her to different dimensions, altering reality. She was rescued by the voice in her head, which happened to be an alternate version of herself.
Wraith is cool for many reasons, including having one of the best Halloween skins on Apex, and being a mysterious character who’s more serious than the rest. She’s not one to make jokes, and the fact that players hear the voices in her head which give tips about enemies is a nice touch.
3 Pathfinder
Pathfinder woke up in an abandoned warehouse, with no idea who created him. Despite his sad origins, he’s managed to stay positive and dedicate his life to finding his creator. Pathfinder refers to nearly everyone as his friend, even his enemies.
Aside from Wattson, Pathfinder has the most lovable personality in Apex. He’s incredibly sweet to every other character. Even when he’s talking to the enemies, he still keeps his friendly persona and never sounds overly serious. Not only does he have some of the most polite quips in the game, but he was also the first robotic character.
2 Wattson
Wattson is the daughter of the lead engineer of the Apex games, and she often comments on how she created the storm for the games. She’s one of the smartest characters, with a passion for studying, science and making punny jokes relating to electricity.
If Apex Legends gets a Netflix show like Arcane, Wattson could be a great character to focus on due to her involvement in the creation of the Apex games. Her backstory is one fans also know little about, in comparison to others, but fans love her for her innocence and quirky personality.
1 Mirage
Mirage has one of the saddest backstories on Apex Legends. While he never had his own outland stories, there have been hints in the game about his mother suffering from Alzheimer’s. It’s known that Mirage had a close relationship with his mother. She helped him develop his holographic clones and inspired him to join the Apex games.
There’s no denying Mirage is the heart of the game. He may not be as cool as Fuse or as smart as Wattson, but he’s worth having on the team for his funny comments. His decoys make him a great distraction, and his ability to revive while invisible is great for risky situations. If Apex Legends were a TV show, Mirage would be the funny support character that everyone loves more than the lead.
